>I’d better take notes. If I’m crossing the border, I’d better not have any weird sketches of SUV’s. Otherwise, I’ll end up like Jerilea Zempel. For some unknown reason, they decided that her odd-looking sketch of a crocheted SUV with mirrors for ears was a sign of copyright infringement. They searched her car from stem to stern, didn’t believe that she was actually a college professor, and when that was proved, suddenly everything was fine. That was weird.
I just don’t understand customs people. Their reasons to stop people seem completely arbitrary. I’m glad Zempel got back ok. I’m also glad she’s deciding to call her piece “The Homeland Security Blanket.” Maybe it’ll help make them look ridiculous.
