Congratulations to the Toronto Maple Leafs, who are now officially off tothe worst start in team history.
0-7-1.
Wow.
And to think that the preseason lookedso promising.
I caught the 3rd period last night, and for the first time this year I couldn’t figure out how they managed to not win. They played hard. They did their best to take advantage of chances. They kept the puck out of their own end and tried to make things easier on Joey MacDonald than they have been for their goaltenders so far. They basically did everything right and definitely played their best game to date, and it’s a shame they didn’t come away with the win. Had it not been for Roberto Luongo playing like he was Roberto Luongo, they probably would have.
The good news is that what I saw out of the Leafs last night gave me hope that maybe this season won’t be a total bomb. If they keep playing like they did last night, eventually good things can’t help but come of it. Best case scenario maybe we’ll get a reverse Blue Jays, where they suck at the beginning of the year and then suddenly get good and start making a serious run at the playoffs. Whatever happens, I’m not ready to give up all hope just yet. Monday might be a different story, but for now I’m not feeling so bad in spite of the record breaking futility.
