I saw this story when I was writing about those other school-related overreactions, and somehow missed including it in the roundup. But then again, I would have had to come up with a new allitteration for the title.
There was a horrible scare at Booker T. Washington School in Birmingham, Alabama. Someone thought that a girl was dispensing pills. They called in the kids’ parents, the police, rushed the kids to the hospital, only to find that they were telling the truth and all that was being dispensed were altoid mints. Still, the girls are suspended and there will be a hearing to decide their punishment. Punishment? For what? I didn’t know having fresh breath was a crime.
This whole thing could have been stopped if a teacher had just asked them what they were eating, and if the teacher was still suspicious, maybe smelled the mints or tried one.
And the craziness continues.
