Here come some more school tools.
It appears the Lower Merion School District was all happy with itself, giving every high school student a laptop so they can have access to school resources all the time. But what Blake Robbins found out was their true motive was spying on students through an embedded webcam in the laptop which school personnel could access at any time from anywhere.
It all started when Robbins was called into the office to be reprimanded for his behaviour at home. As proof of the behaviour, the assistant principal produced a picture taken by the laptop’s embedded camera. It didn’t take long for his parents to sue, and so they should.
I can’t even begin to count the rights of students being violated by this policy. I don’t know what the school board was thinking when they thought it was a good idea, but they sound like a scary group of people. I can’t imagine realizing that if I left the laptop on while I was getting ready for school, it could have been taking pictures of me while I was getting dressed. That is not what I signed up for.
I guess the message is if it’s too good to be true, it probably is.
