The Time Has Come

Today’s the day! Today it’s Team Canada vs. Team USA one more time, everything on the line!

I wish I could say that this one would be a cakewalk for the Canadians, but Team USA is better than I thought and after the way that Canada had to hang on for dear life to pull out the win over Slovakia on Friday night, I’m not convinced. The Canadians didn’t show up for the third period and the Slovaks took advantage of it, almost beating us. I was glad that game ended when it did because they were getting some great chances, and had they had a couple more minutes I’m sure we would have been looking at overtime and perhaps a much different result. Our guys have to be way better than that, because that kind of half assed…I hate to use the word effort because that’s really not what it was just ain’t gonna get it done.

The game is only about 3 hours away, so I hope you’ve got or are getting your beverages of choice prepared. I’m all stocked up and ready to go, so all I need to do is wait and hope that I’m drinking to celebrate and not to drown my sorrows at the end of the day.

And on another cool Olympic note, we’ve been seriously cleaning up in the medals the last few days. We’re up to 25, which puts us in a pretty solid 3rd place behind only Germany 29 and the United States 36. And of those 25 medals, 13 are gold (hopefully 14 after today), which ties the record for most gold medals won by any country during the Winter Games. Nice work, Canada! Our officials might be whining about not owning the podium, but fuck those guys, that’s something to be proud of. The only thing that could make things any better would be to break that record this afternoon at the expense of our friends to the south.

Go Canada Go!
