I want to take a second to mention a couple of deaths that I’ve been meaning to post about but haven’t for one reason or another.
First isFess Parker, most famous for playing the roles of Davey Crockett and Daniel Boone. He was 85.
My dad really loved both characters and watched them whenever he could, and reruns of Daniel Boone were still on TV until recently when the jerks at Canwest scrapped the Lonestar channel and started calling it MovieTime. does anybody know if it’s still on anywhere in Canada? I’m sure dad would like to know.
As for me, I always loved the Daniel Boone theme song, and now seems like as good a time as any toshare it.
The second person in need of a mention is former wrestler and announcerBilly Red Lyons, who died last year at the age of 77 after a long battle with cancer.
Like a lot of people who grew up watching wrestling when I did, I wasn’t overly familiar with Billy Red as a wrestler, but he’ll always be remembered as the “Don’cha dare miss it!” guy who’s job it was to promote the WWF shows in Ontario. He had a calm style, but he was able to get you excited enough to want to part with your money or in my case, get my parents to part with theirs to take me to the matches. Here he is interviewing Bobby Heenan, Ted DiBiase and King Kong Bundy, andhere’s another clip featuring the Hart foundation and Randy Savage. If anybody knows what kind of drugs Jim Neidhart is on here, let me know because I’d really like to avoid them.
So long to both of you, and sorry for taking so long.
