Wow! This Homeowners’ Association definitely went to the Chick Edwards school of Prickish Homeowners’ Associations. The story goes that Michael Clauer went away to fight in Iraq, and his wife fell into a deep depression. The mail started piling up, and she wasn’t opening any of it. In that mail pile were some bills from the Homeowners’ Association. Because she didn’t pay them, they foreclosed on the house. It said something about her living at another house, so I guess she didn’t know about the foreclosure. Then, there was a six-month period in which they could appeal, but she missed that too. So, Clauer came home to find out the house had been auctioned off for $3500. Now that he’s home, he’s suing them for doing all this while he was away, because apparently there’s a law that says action like this cannot be taken against someone while he’s serving in the military. Of course, the association claimed they didn’t know he was away. Uh-huh.
Yeah, and homeowners’ associations are good things. Give me one example of something positive one has done.
