I couldn’t bear to put this one up until I had something funny up first. This one also comes from Ann.
Arizona continues down its road to doom with this mural as it’s latest display.
The mural was advertising using alternate kinds of transit as a more environmentally friendly option. It had 4 kids in it from the Miller Valley Elementary School. The kid that was given the dominant position was a Hispanic boy. Because of this, the designer of the mural was asked to lighten the faces in the picture. The principal says everybody’s face got lightened, it had nothing to do with race, but given that the story says the people working on the mural got racial slurs flung at them, I have my doubts. I also have my doubts because of what City Councilman Steve Blair said on his radio talk show when he was pushing to have the mural removed.
To depict the biggest picture on the building as a Black person, I would have to ask the question: Why?”
And I would have to respond with a. He’s Hispanic, and b. why not?
It just makes me want to put my head down and cry. Now I need to find something else funny or positive so I can feel better.
