By no means would I ever call myself a Yankees fan, but even so, I can’t help but be amazed by the career and a little saddened by the death of the team’s public address anouncer Bob Sheppard, who died yesterday at 99. You can read all about his life and what seems like a zillion accomplishmentshere.
I don’t have many personal memories of him other than the voice, but I do want to mention how classy it is that Derek Jeter to this day still comes to the plate announced by a recording of Sheppard’s voice. I’ll never cheer for the guy, but that’s pretty damn cool.
