Crawford day to day with “testicular contusion”
Rays four-time All-Star LF Carl Crawford is day to day after sustaining a “testicular contusion” during a scary moment in Tuesday’s game when he was struck by a pickoff throw from Orioles starter Jake Arrieta.
“It caught me square, it couldn’t have hit (me) in a better spot,” said Crawford, who doesn’t wear a protective cup because it limits his movements. “It just took the wind out of me.”
Call me crazy, but limited movements don’t sound all that bad when the alternative is a Testicular contusion.
Former Ray Ty Wigginton was the Oriole on the receiving end of the throw, and this is how he recalled the first-inning play: “When he was throwing over, I just reached for the ball and I wasn’t sure what it hit. But I had a pretty good idea when he didn’t move because I know one thing, Carl Crawford is one of the toughest guys I’ve ever played with. He’s a true gamer and if that guy don’t bounce up, it’s not good. I just said, ‘Hang in there, C.’ ”
I have nothing more to say. It’s hard to type with clenched legs and eyes full of tears.
