I missed this a couple of weeks ago when it was announced because summer and because that’s just how things tend to roll around here at the best of times anyway, but it’s still most definitely worth a mention especially to anybody who grew up on CKCO and now CTV Kitchener news like I did.
Another of a dying breed is calling it a day. After 35 years, Art Baumunk retired from the station at the end of June. That’s a hell of a run, especially in today’s industry full of faces and voices that are rarely around long enough for you to really feel like you know them.
I’m still getting used to there being no more Dave MacDonald, and now this. I guess I really am getting old.
From the sound of the video that goes along with the story, he’s got a nice, relaxing retirement planned. After all those years of crime reporting, he’s certainly earned it.
Aww, no more nasal Dad? No he’s not really my dad, but Steve thought his voice shared a quality of dad’s. I never really really got it, but even so, I used to call him nasal Dad around the house anyway. So hmmm. My dad looks like an MP from Woodstock and sounds like a cross between Dalton McGinty and Art Bomunk. Hmm. Poor dad.
It doesn’t help that I’ve never been able to quite explain it. It’s not that they sound the same, but that they share a bit of a tone that reminds me of him in some way. But he sounds quite a bit like Dalton to me too, so at least we can agree on that one.
