This is supposed to be a list of the 50 funniest people around right now. Um…wow. I consider myself to be pretty up on my comedy and comedians, and there are seriously like 12 or 13 people here that I’ve never even heard of. When I wasn’t busy not knowing who anyone was, I was losing count of how many people who’s names I’ve heard but who I wouldn’t be able to pick out of a lineup, and spending the rest of the time saying there’s no way this person is funnier than that guy…and where in the christ is Lewis Black!?
I realize that lists like this are totally subjective and I generally make it a rule not to get caught up in how the rankings should have gone and all that crap, but this is just awful.
I’m not going to fix it, but I am going to ask for an education because I don’t want to miss out on things that might entertain me. So…who the hell are the following people and why should I care:
- Michael Che
- Daniel Kitson
- Melissa McCarthy
- @DadBoner
- Mindy Kaling
- Scott Aukerman
- Kristen Schaal
- Nick Offerman
- Tom Scharpling and Jon Wurster
- Rebel Wilson
- Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen (I know who Fred Armisen is, but who is Carrie Brownstein and why are they on the list together?)
- Hannibal Buress
- Tig Notaro
- Lena Dunham
Ok, so there are 14 people I don’t know, making this thing even worse than I thought. I’m either out of touch or it doesn’t take much to be considered funny anymore.
I don’t know any of them but I can google if I want to waste a morning. You keeping up with baseball?
I am. I’m not having good luck with predictions this year though. Other than the Dodgers, every team I hoped would move on hasn’t. So now the ALCS is one of those where I have absolutely no desire to cheer for either team. Boston because they’re our current divisional rivals and Detroit because they used to be. I guess Detroit is kind of the lesser of evils, but I still can’t get behind them. It’ll be interesting to watch because it should be so even, but I have no interest in watching beyond because it’s the playoffs and that’s what you do.
The NL is kind of a pick ’em too. I’ll bet it goes 7.
When I lived in Arkansas, the closest major league team was the Cards. I remained a Giants fan but was okay with the Cards. At least they aren’t the Dodgers. I’m originally east coast and the Red Sox were my AL favorite and then Cleveland. I’m keeping up with the playoffs by toggling back and forth between the games and what I usually watch. DVR is a wonderful thing.
As soon as there’s a DVR that’s usable by blind people, I’m all over it. I know some companies in the States have apps or website interfaces that you can use to set them, but I don’t think we’ve got that here yet. I wish we did.
