Edit: Here’s his obituary. Search for his name…that’s the easiest way to find it.
I have to say this because I can’t stop spluttering about it.
I looked at my email, and saw one sent to a list I’m on and it was simply entitled “Robert Pearson.” I was going to gloss over it, but I got worried that something had happened to the guy who’s been behind Accessible Media Inc., who has made many presentations about captioning and video description, and who has organized many Accessibility Camps and socials at bigger conferences like CSUN.
And something had happened to him. According to the author of the email, as well as AMI’s Twitter, Robert Pearson suddenly passed away either yesterday or the day before.
I haven’t been able to find an obituary for him, but that’s understandable since this just happened. I have since learned that he was 39, making this whole thing very unexpected.
Here’s Robert Pearson doing a presentation in Montreal.
Maybe you’ve heard his name but can’t put a face on it. There he is.
Wow. I had no idea what he’d been through. I really wonder if this weird condition was what finally got him. There were a couple of points that felt really eerie in that presentation. Damn, did he ever do a lot in his short life.
Also, someone has set up a memorial fund for his kids.
I’m still a little bit in shock. I will probably think of him whenever I go to a conference or an Accessibility event. It just goes to show you never know.
