Maybe I’m the only one, but I’ve noticed that I don’t hear the term “of no fixed address” nearly as much as I used to. But I have heard it a few times in the last week or so including once just now, and it reminded me of being a little kid, listening to the news.
I don’t remember exactly when it clicked, but at some point my super genius child brain realized that whenever this NO Fixed Address place came up, it was always because somebody who lived there got arrested. I spent quite a bit of time wondering exactly where it was, and even a little bit getting kind of nervous that if we had to drive any sort of distance to get to someplace we didn’t normally go that we may end up having to go through it.
The one part of the story I wish I could remember is how I eventually figured out what it really meant. I don’t know if I put it together myself or had to resort to giving somebody one of those kids say the darnedest things laughs. If I did have to ask somebody, I guess it was the right person. I hope whoever it was got a few good chuckles out of it like I am right now.
