Eamon Games For New Computers And Destination Mars For iPhones. Welcome To Old Game Heaven

I haven’t tried Eamon Deluxe yet, but I used to have a lot of fun playing these on my old Apple IIe when I was little and it sounds wholly crap awesome.

Eamon Deluxe is an enhanced and expanded variation of the classic Eamon gaming system. With the release of version 5.0, Eamon Deluxe features cross-platform portability and an alternate accessibility mode for disabled or vision impaired users. The Eamon Deluxe adventure library includes a growing selection of original adventures as well as ongoing conversions of all known Eamon adventures.

There are versions for Windows, Mac, Linux and even Nintendo Wii.

I wonder if I’ll still be good at the ones I managed to win back in the day.

In other game news, there is Destination Mars for the iPhone. Repeat: There is Destination Mars for the iPhone! That’s the highlight for me, but that’s not all. The app, which is free I should add, comes with six games, a couple of which I’ve never played.

1.Atlantic City Blackjack: This game of blackjack is played by the rules set by the NJ Casino Commission.
2.Casino: This game has a selection of four games which are blackjack, slot machine, flash poker, and minibaccart.
3.Dodge City Desperados: You are the sheriff of the wild west town of Dodge City. Your mission, take out the Desperado Brothers before they take you out.
4.Destination Mars: In this game you will be taking a 35 million mile trip from the Earth to Mars, but it won’t be easy. You will encounter different obstacles on this journey. Good luck space pilot
5.Run for President: Ever wanted to be president? Well, in this game you are a candidate running around the United States on a Monopoly style board in a bid to beat the computer and become president of the United States of America.
6.Sounds Like: In this word game, you must try to figure out the hidden word from the clues that are given.

I haven’t played with it myself yet, but from watching Carin when she downloaded it I think it could have been adapted a bit better. Having to use the onscreen keyboard instead of buttons for the various tasks in Mars seems to slow the game play down quite a bit, plus hitting F to fire at alien ships didn’t do that at all, instead putting the game into some kind of freeze mode that I’m pretty sure wasn’t mentioned in the instructions and that she was unable to get out of. I’ll do my own monkeying with it at some point and maybe it’ll grow on me, but after seeing that I was in no big hurry to open it up.

If you’ve tried it, let us know if you’ve had any better luck with it and how you managed it.

  1. I’ve tryed it, and as you said, the onscreen keyboard makes playing very slow, also, I don’t like that you have to listen to everything from what you wheel to your current situation.
It would be cool if you could tap a line and read whatever you want to.

    1. Yes. That too. If you miss something, there’s no way to go back and just hear what you’ve missed, or if you don’t need to hear things you’ve already heard, you’re stuck listening to it anyway. Certainly something they should think about in version 2 if there is one.
