Is The Place Called Little Temples Because We Need To Pray That The Kids Don’t End Up As Dumb As The Owner?

Since this is a story about kids and their daycare, let’s play a game. I’m going to tell you a tale and you’re going to guess what happened to this teacher.

Michelle Hammack was inside her classroom at the Little Temples Childcare in Jacksonville, when she suddenly smelled smoke.
“I just leaned over and peeked around and there was a fire in the oven,” she told WTEV’s Action News. “I ran in there and opened it to try to put it out, and the fire alarm started going off.”
With little time to assess the scope of the situation, Hammack quickly headed back into the classroom, and awoke the children from their nap.
She then escorted them outside, and rushed back in to make sure no children were left behind.
The second time around Hammack could clearly see the oven fire was small enough to manage on her own, and so she put it out herself before the fire trucks arrived.

Ok, so what happened? Was she:
A: Given a pat on the back?
B: Invited to a special ceremony where she was congratulated and maybe even given a plaque or a medal?
C: Given a hefty raise?
D: On the wrong end of a good firin’?

This should be an easy one. Where are you, and what kind of folks do we most often deal with here?

Yes indeed, for her smart thinking and efforts to save a bunch of people’s children from what could have been their toasty death, daycare owner Olga Rozhaov fired Hammack for leaving her assigned room. That, you see, is absolutely against the rules, and we just can’t be having that, flaming toddlers be damned!

“I fired her only because she left her room,” Rozhaov said when asked for comment. “Even though children are sleeping, the teachers are supposed to be there.”

But what about the chances of charbroiled children?

Nope, rules are rules, she mindlessly insists.

“It’s not acceptable, and if anybody else does the same thing, I will fire again,” Rozhaov said. “I will fire them. No question.”

This is usually the part where you’d see something about how Hammack should get her job back, but honestly, who would want to work for such an unfeeling, closed-minded fool? I do, however, think that Rozhaov should be made to pay her full salary until she finds a job working for somebody with a clue, somebody who realizes that they don’t just say that stuff about rules having exceptions for fun.

Oh, and when you next have a chance to ponder the mysteries of the universe and wonder why it is that so many people can’t think or fend for themselves anymore, I want you to think of Olga Rozhaov and her Little Temples Childcare centre. It sounds like the kind of place where doing the right thing is discouraged in favour of sheepily following a set of mandated in stone procedures. In other words, the exact sort of place we need a whole lot less of if there’s to be any hope left for the world by the time you and I are old.
