False Starts And Wrong Turns

Here’s a fun article about some of the bad luck a few of the athletes have had during the Olympics. I should say fun for you and I, because none of these things happened to us. If I were Sven Kramer I’d likely be shoving volunteers too, not to mention beating coaches half to death.False starts and wrong turns

Leanid Karneyenka of Belarus was probably feeling the same elation Lobkov had for a few seconds, before he realized things had gone blunderously wrong.

There Karneyenka was, slightly leading his semifinal of the men’s cross-country skiing team sprint on Monday.

All of a sudden, heading into the final sharp left turn before the straightaway to the finish line, he looked behind him and for a second probably thought he had left everybody in his wake.

Well, he had. Because there is no final sharp left turn before the straightaway into the finish line. He had just made a detour onto the exchange area of the course. Disqualification ensued.
