Local MPP tables bill to end time changes in Ontario
If you know me at all or have been reading for a while, you know this is an idea I can get behind. Not so much that you’ll find me voting PC in a couple years (let’s not get crazy here), but a good idea is a good idea no matter where it comes from, and this is definitely a good idea. Well, aside from one problem.
Ottawa West-Nepean MPP Jeremy Roberts is trying to pave the way for Ontario to end the practice of changing our clocks twice a year.
He tabled Bill 214, the Time Amendment Act, on Wednesday, October 7.
If passed, Roberts says the bill will enable the Attorney General of Ontario (AGO) to move the province permanently to daylight time.
The only catch is the AGO would only be able to bring this act into effect in coordination with the neighbouring jurisdictions of Quebec and New York.
Why? Why make such a much needed change dependent on what other people are doing? Somebody has to go first, why can’t Ontario take the lead? I can’t think of a single good reason not to. Sure there would be some time zone confusion, but who cares? Isn’t that better than an entire province being forced into a completely unnecessary days long state of dangerous tiredness twice a year? Yes. Yes it is.
